The SA Reserve Bank has just released images of the new series of South Africa bank notes, featuring former President Nelson Mandela.
The new notes will have enhanced security features, as well as features that will make them easier to read for visually impaired people.
The new banknotes will have similar dimensions to the current notes. There are no plans to release a R500 note, SARB said earlier.
Take a look at the back sides (featuring animals) of the new notes here: http://finweek.com/2012/09/05/madiba-bank-notes-the-b-sides/.

put malema on coins
Good move to highlight, a great man in a time that could have been so different. Well Done.
It looks like cheap 3rd world bank notes – absolutely worthless… It belongs on the Monopoly board game.
The communications campaign for the new bank notes set the Reserve Bank back by R32 million – Money well spent???
Soon the R10 note will be metallised … and the Rhino will be … gone
is he dead….?
You guys haven’t been following the story. The Big 5 will still be on the reverse of each note as they are at present. Old notes won’t be withdrawn, they’ll remain in circulation along with the new notes and will be phased out as they show signs of wear and tear. I also agree with Bruce that other faces could’ve gone onto the other notes with Mandala being on the R200 note only.
How much will ti cost to scrap the old bank notes and print new ones???
people are dying while striking for better wages and yet the government has the finance to launch new bank notes and scrap old ones??? Interesting!!!
This is a genius move by the ANC. Every time we pay for something, we are looking at an ANC propaganda flyer. Our bank notes have now been politicised.
.
hahaha
Than ks, but no thanks – I DON’T worship/like/honour Mandela and I don’t see why more taxpayers’ hard-earned money must be used to launch these new notes just to spread his face even further. That money could be far better used to preserve our endangered wildlife – especially our rhinos, as well as helping the poor – Mandela is NOT God almighty and holy Moses rolled into one, so stop treating him as though he were…
Am I the only who’s looking at the cost-factor of making new notes?
SARB recently had to add more security features on the 200notes, not to mention those fake R5s that are circulating! There’s nothing wrong with our big-5 notes…nothing at all. Don’t get me wrong, I love and respect Nelson Mandela but this is just unnecessary!
No man! I’m not a cynic but our big 5 notes were both unique and representative of South Africa. Our Rhinos are close to extinction. I’m eternally grateful for what Mandela has done but there were other heroes that on contributed equally to the transformation of our country. He has a bridge, University, roads and many other permanent structures named after him, not to mention the gold/Kruger coins. Leave the notes to our wildlife or at least other heroes as mentioned before.

I like it. Maybe if you also had other veterans on the bank notes, but leave the top spot for Madiba (the R200 one)
